"A bill quietly endorsed by a legislative committee would codify licensed concealed-weapons holders' ability to openly carry loaded guns in almost any publicly owned space in Utah, including university campuses, public schools, sports arenas and hospitals." ...
"In recent years, U. officials have largely abandoned their opposition to concealed weapons on campus, but they have held firm on the 'open carry' issue, contending current law requires that firearms allowed by concealed-weapons permits must remain concealed if they are brought onto school grounds. They cite the potential disruption caused by public display of weapons." ... |

We've come full circle. The states interfered with gun rights by infringing on mode of carry, outlawing concealed carry when open carry was the norm.
A hundred years later, after open carry has gone out of fashion, one will need a CCW to open carry. How weird is that? Thank God, I live in Arizona, one of the few open carry states. It is my hope that we shall soon get rid of any state interference with mode of carry (a prior restraint) and return to sound principals of law--punish those who misuse a right, not who might. |

| Actually, gub nut, open carry is already codefied and allowed under Utah law. This simply clarifies the law that those with CC permits can also choose to OC and are not required to CC. Thus making things clear for already overtaxed police, and apparently otherwise idle UofU administrators. |
